In the literary world, the quatrain is a style of poetry limited to four-line stanzas of any kind; rhymed, metered, or otherwise. Here, this style of poetry takes the form of photographic constructions. Removed from its original context, an image is made part of a visually flowing sequence to create a new whole — a mélange of subject matter, formal properties, intention, and potential meaning. Don Werthmann's twenty-four year career in photography met forces that sparked this project’s inception in October 2010, and over the last eight years it has evolved from an exclusive blog presence, Thinking Outloud, to the website, Quatrain ƒotographic. The Quatrain Project is being featured in very unique print and interactive formats at Found Gallery Artist In-Store Events.
