Monk’s Modern Music Revisited featuring pianist Rick Roe, bassist Rodney Whitaker, and special guest drummer Dana Hall

  • Kerrytown Concert House 415 North 4th Avenue Ann Arbor, MI, 48104 United States (map)

A special reunion of celebrated jazz musicians and a revival of a seminal recording made right here at KCH nearly 30 years ago!

Back in 1994, coming off of a semi-finalist ranking in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, pianist Rick Roe gathered a great trio of high level musicians at Kerrytown Concert House to record a tribute to the great jazz composer Thelonious Sphere Monk (joining Roe was string bassist Rodney Whitaker and drummer Gregory Hutchinson). The album, entitled Monk’s Modern Music, went on to become an important contribution to the catalog of recorded Monk tributes. KCH is honored to present a revival of this seminal project with Monk’s Modern Music Revisited in the very place it began nearly 30 years ago! Don’t miss this special collaboration of world-class jazz musicians – Rick Roe, Rodney Whitaker and special guest Dana Hall – honoring this “genius of modern music” in the intimate setting of our Jazz Listening Room!
