Stephen Sondheim (1930-2021) is considered by many the most significant composer of American musical theater to date, and his brilliant music and lyrics illuminate unexpected themes of the human experience—unrequited love, aging, survival, insecurity, and struggle. Arranger Eric Stern, who worked closely with Sondheim, explores the many expressive possibilities of the violin and piano, forging an exquisite partnership that is at once orchestral and intimate, allowing both instruments to sing and dance. This program will feature selections from Company, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, and more.
