Third Place Concert Series is THRILLED to welcome contemporary violin duo, The Furies, and Michigan-based bassist/vocalist, Maggie Hasspacher to our June concert!
Maggie will kick of the program with original works, as she will be releasing her album, Follow Through, the following weekend.
The Furies will finish the evening with works by Olga Neuwirth, Jennifer Walshe, ThunderCunt, Elizabeth A. Baker, and Eve Beglarian.
More on The Furies: The Furies is a contemporary violin duo whose mission is to bring intersectional feminism into the concert hall through immersive performance experiences that challenge our audience and community, for us to learn more about the histories of women in a white male dominated canon, and to encourage audience members to demand more diverse programming from their musical institutions.
Read more about Maggie: Maggie Hasspacher is a bassist/vocalist based in the Detroit area and recently graduated with a DMA from the University of Michigan. She performs as a member of new music collective wild Up in Los Angeles, AEPEX Contemporary Performance in Ann Arbor, the Midland Symphony Orchestra and the Flint Symphony Orchestra. She recently performed a solo work for the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Fluxus Festival on The Edge of Jazz Green Umbrella program and attended the Lucerne Festival Academy Alumni Ensemble in Lucerne, Switzerland. In March 2019, she was featured in The Strad magazine, based in the UK, as a rising bassist/vocalist and has been mentioned twice in the LA Times for her vocal features in wild Up shows. She performed for three consecutive summers with the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra and toured Europe with her jazz/classical duo AMMAduo with Amy K Bormet, performing in Vienna, Austria and Gothenburg, Sweden in 2017. Hasspacher has sung on soundtracks for the History Channel and PBS and given live solo performances on KPCC Los Angeles and WLRN Miami. She was guest artist at the O, Miami Poetry Festival twice in Miami, FL and at the Washington Women in Jazz Festival Summer Concert Series in Washington D.C. She released her first singer/songwriter album “We Shall Overcome” in 2015 and recently recorded her next album “Follow Through,” to be released 2019.
Concert will be one hour long with brief intermission between sets. Admission is free with a $5 suggested donation.
What is the "Third Place"?
In community building, the third place is the social surroundings separate from the two usual social environments of home ("first place") and the workplace ("second place"). Examples of third places would be environments such as churches, cafes, clubs, public libraries, or parks.
Our goal is the create community between first-time concert goers, families, Ann Arbor townies, University of Michigan students, and many others for an evening of accessible, high quality chamber music.
The Kerrytown District located in Ann Arbor Michigan has become an Ann Arbor retail destination making it convenient to stroll the neighborhood and check off your shopping list at a wonderfully diverse selection of locally owned businesses.

Kerrytown District retail businesses and restaurants stay open late on this evening as they participate in the festivities. You can expect a variety of artisans selling their wares, food and crafts as well as local food trucks & vendors. Beer and Glühwein will be available for sale, too!
