A sextet of musicians hailing from Detroit and Ann Arbor will come together on October 12 to perform Grant Green's 1965 album “Idle Moments” live at Kerrytown Concert House. The original recording featured Joe Henderson on tenor sax, Duke Pearson on piano, Bobby Hutcherson on vibes, Bob Cranshaw on double bass, and Al Harewood on drums. Guitarist Alex Anest has assembed his ensemble with some of the best artists in the area including Janelle Reichman on tenor, Alexis Lombre on piano, Peyton Miller on vibes, Eric Nachtrab on bass, and Gayelynn McKinney on drums. This performance is about remembering and honoring our musical roots as well as connecting creatively and emotionally with our peers. Idle Moments was just one of many great records released on Blue Note during the label's heyday. Two of the four tunes on the record have become standard jazz repertoire while the other two are not as well known. Art and artists exist in constant tension between tradition and innovation. The musicians who are part of the Idle Moments Project enjoy exploring that tension.
